I just found this tribe and thought I'd mention how awesome it is- I started getting into feminist epic fantasy and science fiction as a teenager (due largely to The Mists of Avalon, which is one of the books that played an integral role in my teen years).
Is there any relatively recent feminist science fiction or fantasy that you'd recommend? I haven't read a really mindblowing piece of fiction in at least a year, and could use some suggestions.
-Cheers!

Re: Hi! I'm new!
Tue, February 14, 2006 - 12:08 PMI just finished the Sundering series by Jaqueline Carey. It's pretty much a Lord of the Rings retelling with a perspective of the "bad guy". It dwells alot in the shades of grey, which i really apprieciate. The first book is Banewreaker and the second is Godslayer. They are in my top ten for sure. -

Re: Hi! I'm new!
Wed, February 15, 2006 - 1:40 PMI started Banewreaker and wasn't hooked - a big disappointment since I devoured Carey's Kushiel series in days. Just IMO, of course - I think Carey is an awesome and talented writer.
Of course, I haven't got anything to hold up at the moment and say, Read this! - having been a little busy lately. (Shame on me.) I'm angling for rave reviews too...

Diana Paxon
Fri, March 3, 2006 - 8:23 PMCaleb,
If you liked *Mists*, chances are you'll like Diana Paxon's work as well. Marion was a mentor of Diana's. In quality of writing, I believe Diana surpassed her in quality of writing. It's hard to beat the vision of *Mists*, though.
You might also like Starhawk's fiction, especially *The Fifth Sacred Thing.*
