"Butler fell and struck her head on the cobbled walkway outside her home, said Leslie Howle, a longtime friend and employee at the Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame in Seattle.
The writer, who suffered from high blood pressure and heart trouble and could only take a few steps without stopping for breath, was found outside her home in the north Seattle suburb of Lake Forest Park and died Friday, Howle said."
She was so young!
Her books are crazy important! Her books are taught at Cornell University!
What a loss.

Re: Octavia Bulter Died
Fri, March 3, 2006 - 4:39 AMI was greatly saddened by Octavia Butler's death. She was my favorite science fiction writer. It's the first time any of my "favorite" artists died and I was surprised how much it affected me. Her work has meant a lot to me throughout the years, and I will miss any additional writing from her. She was incredibly talented and imaginative. I look forward to reading the couple of her novels that I actually have never read. -
